Located in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, Sherman Oaks was founded in 1927. The area got its name from General Moses Hazeltine Sherman, a partner of the L.A. Suburban Homes Company. The firm had broken up 1,000 acres of land in 1927 and had sold off each acre to homeowners.
Sherman Oaks also includes a segment of the Santa Monica Mountains which is why its population of nearly 70,000 is a bit lower than other local regions. Sherman Oaks is noted for the Van Nuys Park. This park has eight baseball diamonds, an auditorium, basketball courts, community room, football field, tennis courts, pool gymnasium, soccer field, and picnic areas. The park has been regarded as a popular place for family gatherings and certainly adds a great quality of life for its residents.
