Located in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains, Bel air is often regarded as an affluent, well-educated neighborhood in the westside of Los Angeles. Founded in 1923, the area has a population of approximately 10,000.
Like many neighborhoods in the area, Bel Air was developed by one individual who at one point owned the land and sold it off in parcels. Alphonzo Bell had owned farm property in Sante Fe Springs, California where oil was found. He then purchased a ranch where he divided up the land and sold residential lots with a master plan from the help of architect Mark Daniels. He had also built the Bel-Air Beach Club as well as the Bel-Air Country Club. Along with Beverly Hills and Holmby Hills, the three form the Platinum Triangle of Los Angeles neighborhoods.
